The Marriage of Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput

It’s been a long wait for fans of Mr Kapoor, but the 34-year-old actor is finally hitched to his Delhi based girlfriend Mira Rajput. The couple were married in a toned down, yet still perfectly glamorous gurudwara at the home of wealthy industrialist Shivinder Singh in Rajkori, Delhi, before heading off to the beautifully luxurious Oberoi Hotel in Gurgaon.

Despite its obvious grandeur and solemnity of the occasion, the couple, along with their guests, were pretty relaxed, this certainly wasn’t a stuffy affair, with everyone posting playful photos to social media. Even the couple took many moments to post intimate and loving shots of each other on the big day.

As the reception came, what remained of the formalities were dispensed with, then it was time for everyone to well and truly let their hair down. From the couples stunning entrance in regal and sumptuous attire, the couple changed again, Mira was dressed in a yellow Anita Dongre lehenga, with matching gold jewellery, with playfully draped string of yellow flowers around her neck and in her hair, giving a wonderfully carefree look. Shahid had changed into a red kurta, bandhgala and black churridar.

As the evening progressed, Shahid danced to his hit numbers ‘Dhan Tenan’, ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’, ‘Saj Dhaj Ke Tashan’ along with his new bride, family and friends. All in all, it was the perfect day, with a good variety of stunning designs being donned by the pair, a perfect ceremony and even more perfect reception.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: Celebrating 1000 Weeks Of Love

One legendary film maker and one iconic on-screen jodi created one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema history. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) recently celebrated 1000 weeks since its’ release onto cinema screens. I have watched this at least fifteen times and indeed it lives up to its’ title, which I can never be tired of. I am sure many others as well myself have swooned to be in Simran’s position; to find someone who has the courage to fight for their love.

The DDLJ cast recently appeared on the hilarious television show Comedy Nights With Kapil; it was spectacular to see the great chemistry between SRK and Kajol, regardless of them being off-screen, and it was a pleasant surprise to see Pooja Ruparel (as Chukti in DDLJ) and Mandira Bedi (as Preeti in DDLJ) almost 20 years since the film’s release. If you have not seen this yet, it is a must watch!

Bollywood is well renowned for its big, imaginative and surreal films, however DDLJ broke away from this convention to a certain extent, where the dialogue all the way to its’ directorial execution seemed realistic and natural. I love each and every soundtrack composed by the musical genius Jatin Lalit and lyricist Anand Bakshi; all these classics feature India’s evergreen singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, and Udit Narayan. ‘Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna’ and ‘Tujhe Dekha To’ will remain to be a timeless tributes to love.

Here are my top 3 favourite scenes (it was certainly difficult to narrow it down to 3):

Pehli Mulaqat

This scene is truly hilarious, where Raj and Simran encounter each other for the first time. Raj uses his poor chat-up lines to entice Simran, but all fails.

Train Choot Gaye

Simran’s stubbornness and Raj’s pacifying creates a comical scene, when they both miss their train and end up sticking together to catch their next train. This is when the magical love story truly begins.

Palat

This famous scene is just super-sweet; Raj reveals his feelings about Simran, but in Raj-style he jokes about it. Raj’s famous “Palat” line is an example of a hopeless romantic – what every girl wants!

DDLJ will remain to be a turning point in Indian cinema and be a magical timeless classic. No matter how old you are for decades to come, it will always teach us the innocence of love and the brave hearted will always triumph.

We would love to hear your thoughts and know your favourite scenes from DDLJ. Tweet us @thinkshaadi and @londonkiladki.

Bollywood Extravaganza: The Marriage of Riddhi Malhotra and Tejas Talwalkar

Top: The Bride and Groom Bottom: The Bride and Groom with uncle Manish and brother Punit.

It was a fantastically fashionable wedding for the niece of famed designer (and Bollywood favourite) Manish Malhotra. Riddhi Malhotra tied-the-knot with her fiance Tejas Talwalker, in Mumbai. Attracting a wealth of Bollywood’s great and good, like moths to a flame.

mh5mh4 mh3 Top: Priyanka Chopra Middle: Madhuri Dixit with her husband Sriram Nene Bottom: Sridevi and Boney Kapoor

Obviously the guests were, on the most part, decked out in the finest designs Riddhi’s talented uncle had to offer. It was much like one of Malhotra’s fashion shows.

mh8mh7 mh6Top: Rekha Middle: Karisma Kapoor Bottom: Vidya Balan with her husband Sidharth Roy Kapur

The star studded wedding began with the sangeet, where we saw a veritable who’s-who of the industry show up in support of Manish. The guest list included – Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra, Karan Johar with mum Hiroo, Malaika and Amrita Arora, Kajol, Gauri Khan, Farah Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and more.

mh11mh10 mh9Top: Neha Dhupia Middle: Akshay Kumar with wife Twinkle Bottom: Raveena Tandon

The Bollywood divas were the ultimate stars of the show, not however outshining the loved-up bride and groom. The beauty of it, was that everyone invited really did their best in the fashion stakes. It was of course a series of events, the sangeet, wedding ceremony, reception, that was dominated by the mighty Malhotra, but we saw some other designers on show including Manish Arora and Sanjay Garg.

We at Think Shaadi are hoping to see a lot more fashion filled wedding events in 2015! Xx

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 18.36.01

Earlier this year Dia Mirza, former Miss Asia Pacific, Bollywood actress and producer, announced on Twitter that she was officially engaged to her long time beau Sahil Sangha.

Screen Shot 2014-10-18 at 18.31.21

Sahil proposed to Dia in the middle of  Brooklyn Bridge in New York, getting down on his knees to confess his love to Dia, and she of course said yes, as the New Yorker’s and tourists alike applauded and cheered for the couple. They were in the US for the IIFA 2014 awards in Tampa Bay and it was there where she made the announcement on Twitter. Ever since that day we at Think Shaadi have been waiting in anticipation for the wedding.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 15.18.32

The couple had to wait a while to announce their wedding date, because they were busy working together as c0-producers on Bobby Jasoos. Dia finally let the cat of the bag in mid-July to reporters saying – “If I tell you everything right now, then there would be no surprise. But you would not need to play detective. I will get married in India itself in October.” Mirza told IANS. Then a few weeks later Dia broke the news that October 18 would be the big day!

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 15.56.37

The three day wedding celebrations started on the 16th of October, with the mehendi function, and Dia shared the news via twitter to her fans. The celebrations were handled by wedding planners Natasha Katgara Gocal and Erina DeAbreu of Divinity Weddings, who also managed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan wedding.

Screen Shot 2014-10-18 at 18.30.57

Dia wore a richly adorned marigold yellow anarkali suit, in chanderi fabric, designed by Ritu Kumar. It was teamed with a beautiful fuschia colour odhni. Sahil wore a masculine maroon kurta, to contrast Dia’s eclectic outfit.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 16.25.07

Ritu Kumar said in a statement described her creation: “The kurta has a vintage cut used in the courts of Agra around the 15th century. The neck is deep and worked in embroidered gota patti on net like the technique used at the time. The gold metallic taar used is of silver worked in gold thread and dori to give it a stylised plant inlay look. Each panel is highlighted with a flowering buta. The odhni is fuschia worked with small butis of the same beaten gold gota patti, a fuschia brocade deep sinjaf finishes the edges of the outfit.”

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 16.20.49

October 17th was the Sangeet, with Dia choosing to go with a hypnotic blue and gold Anita Dongre lehenga, which she accessorised with a three string polki and pearl piece, with a large blue pendant. Sahil looked dashing in a signature black buttoned up Raghavendra Rathore bandgala.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 16.50.37

Dia also choreographed a dance piece prepared specifically for the sangeet, which Sahil and his family members were eagerly awaiting to watch her perform.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 17.36.53

The wedding and reception took place on the 18th at Rosha Farms, a private farmhouse in Ghitorni, South Delhi. It was was very intimate affair for Indian high society standards with guest size ranging from 100-500 during the three day celebrations. Notable guests included Rajkumar Hirani, Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi, Sushmita Sen, Roshan Seth, Nikhil Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Pallavi Sharda and Cyrus Sahukar. There was heavy security protecting the privacy of the couple and their guests.  They were however very sweet to come out and greet the waiting news crews outside the gates, to have some snaps taken.

Dia, went back to Ritu Kumar for the wedding day. She choose a subdued beige and green sharara inspired by Ritu Kumar’s Falaknuma collection, which highlights the heritage of craftsmanship that comes from Dia’s birth city of Hyderabad.

The wedding has been captured by our friends at The Wedding Filmer and they caught this beautiful moment of Dia Mirza moments before Sahil’s baraat arrived at her door. Dia captioned the moment perfectly – “I feel like I’m on a movie set, waiting in my van for my diva hero to arrive.”

Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 09.04.42

Finally for the reception Dia choose to give with a gold and peach party lengha from Shantanu & Nikhil. They were thrilled to see Dia transform their outfit with such class and grace.

Sahil once told The Bombay Times in an interview, “What I love the most about her is that in one word, she is pure. She is very giving and all heart, which is also a problem as then you need to take care of your heart. She lights up a room as soon as she walks in.” We wish the couple a very long and wonderful married life xx

Suneet Varma: The Princess of Shekhawati

suneet

Regal Rajasthan was the inspiration for this collection, presented at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week. As Suneet Varma went all out to create an evocative and sensual panoply of designs, that made us fall in love with him all over again.

Now, it’s all very well and good for us at Think Shaadi to talk about the outstanding show, which we will be doing later, but the preparation is where the magic really happens. It’s was a frenetic time for Suneet and his team, but as he is a consummate professional, it was a beautifully ordered kind of freneticism, one in which all the last-minute details were perfectly pieced together.

suneet3suneet4

As Suneet remarked “It’s all about draping, styling and the finer details of each ensemble, until we reach perfection.” Perfection is of course what all good shows are about, and if you’re Suneet Varma, then it has to be a certain kind of perfection which supersedes everyone else. This was achieved through carefully going through every aspect, whether it be big or small, from the jewellery, hair, makeup, design presentation and so on.

suneet5suneet7

After days of careful consideration over each design and model, the show finally arrives, when all the fastidious preparations come to a head.

suneet6

Rajasthan, as one of the most colourful states in India, with its elaborate and brightly painted havelis has always been beacon for artists, designers, writers and so on.

suneet1

suneet2

suneet3

Specifically inspired by Shekhawati in northern Rajasthan, the city is famous for its richly painted havelis and inspiring aesthetics, built by wealthy Marwari merchants, the havelis were decorated by some of the most outstanding artists from England, Spain, India and Italy.

suneet4

suneet5

Suneet spoke of Shekhawati and the deep influence it had on this collection – “I have visited Shekhawati several times‐ and each time am awestruck at the beauty and splendour of this renowned city. The very idea and opulence of living in hand painted Havelis is very inspiring for me. The stark and bright colored sprawling Havelis with incredible detailing and architecture against the blue skies of Rajasthan are magical.”

suneet

Suneet’s imagination ran wild with this collection, The Princess of Shekhawati is traditional, yet with subtle modern twists. Like Shekhawati itself, the designs mix both age-old Indian and European artistry, the influences are maximised with fine execution.

suneet8

suneet9

Festooned with piercing crystals and gems, they fit the with the variety of palettes which are a range of feminine pastels, blushing pinks and reds and midnight shades. The collection is designed in three sections – dawn, dusk and divine.

Each section is all about layering, the different ways one can achieve the perfect layered effect, from two piece sarees with embellished corset blouses with delicate antique zardosi, long anarkali kurtas with mirrorwork and thread embroidered all over jaal to short tunics with colour on color thread and Swarovski crystals with draped dhoti salwars, Angrakha style kalidar kurtas worn with short cropped jackets with draped collars and delicate bead embroidery.

suneet2

suneet11

This collection of artistic dreams come to life is a masterful example of how architecture influences fashion. The show was triumphant in revealing this aspect, with the princess of cinema, Kangana Ranaut as the cherry on the cake. It was she who embodied Suneet’s Princess of Shekhawati in a way no other woman on that catwalk could.

We are very proud to have Suneet Varma as part of our community, to see more from Suneet head over to www.thinkshaadi.com to request an invite X

Harpers’ Bazaar Bride

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 16.47.18

Here at Think Shaadi we were amazed at the July cover of Harpers’ Bazaar Bride. Featuring the ethereal Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently starring in Sajid Nadiadwala‘s action comedy ‘Kick’, alongside Salman Khan and Randeep Hooda. Fernandez sparkles in a kaleidoscopic creation by India’s king of all things sartorially adventurous Manish Arora.

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 08.35.25This was an edgy shift away from Harpers’ Bazaar Bride’s usual themes, which often embrace the formal. The photographer behind it is Prasad Naik, one of the industries most sought after creatives. His photography truly pushes the boundaries, Naik weaves the young, the beautiful and the bold effortlessly.

After completing art school in 1996, Naik launched himself into the world of professional photography, and his since worked on numerous editorials with some of the most prestigious publications, including ELLE India, L’Officiel, Vogue, Marie Claire India, Flim Fare et al.

We got the opportunity to have a quick chat with Naik about his shoot for Harpers’ Bazaar Bride. “I had been working with Harper’s Bazaar for years and know the Editor and the whole team” says Naik “Some of them have now joined Harper’s Bazaar Bride and called me for the cover and cover story shoot.

On the preperation behind the shoot, Naik says “We treated all the shots like a goodpicture and then took a unanimous decision on which is the best and suitable for the cover. It was quite unique as this was the first time I shot for a bridal magazine. The shoot went on for approximately 5 hours and we did about 4 to 5 changes.

It’s been super to get some background info on how this amazing cover came to be. We’re waiting to see another colaboration between Naik and Hapers’ Bazaar Bride very soon! X
