Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma’s Upcoming Wedding

It’s been billed as one of the biggest and most note worthy events of the Bollywood calender. Yes, the wedding of Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma is almost upon us. Aayush has been the long term boyfriend of Arpita, the adopted daughter of Salim Khan, and the now the couple are finally getting hitched.

As suspected, it will be a beautifully stylish affair, with the ceremony being held at the prestigious Falaknuma Palace, it was revealed that Arpita had always wanted to tie-the-knot in a palace. The guest list, according to is truly start studded, along with Salman, Salim, Helen and the rest of the Khan clan, political figures such as Sonia Ghandi, Narendra Modi and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be coming along too.

The wedding itself will be closed off from the press and prying eyes, even now, very little of the details are being shared. Arpita being from one of India’s most beloved families and therefore the most observed, it’s only right that the couples privacy be given the strictest attention.

Nothing is known about what Arpita will be wearing on the big day, but we’re sure that it will be something superb. We can tell a you little about what’s going on at Falaknuma Palace. The regal venue has been hired by big brother Salman for two days, and has been decorated from top to bottom. The wedding dinner menu is rumoured to be full of exquisite Deccan dishes, including Hyderabadi Biryani, Haleem and Pathar Ka Gosht.

Arpita had her pre-wedding Mehendi yesterday, which was held at her luxurious galaxy apartment. Again, it was absolute star-studded extravaganza, with brother Sohail Khan, sister Alvira Khan and husband Atul Agnihotri, and Salman’s ex-girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani, as well as Himesh Reshammiya, Malaika Arora Khan and sister Amrita Arora attending.

We at Think Shaadi wish the happy couple all the very best, and we’re hoping to get at least a few glimpses of Arpita’s dress.

McQueens at Claridges: The Masterclass

Since 1991, McQueens florist has been a hot spot for the most creative floral designs in the city of London, and they have gained customers as far away as Japan and Hollywood. Set-up by Kally Ellis, a former marketer with a French merchant bank, Kally drew on her marketing skills, along with her passion for colour and design to create McQueens.

Kally says “I wanted to sell simple, stylish flowers, beautifully presented, to the London market. And I knew people would love it.” McQueens is riding high, becoming a premier name in the UK flower market, supplying such well established brands as Harrods, Rolls Royce, Christian Louboutin and Mulberry.

This December will see the amazing McQueen’s giving a masterclass at London’s bastion of luxury Claridges. It will give eager aspiring florists the chance to learn about flowers with expert guidance and discover more about flower care, whilst making their own unique festive flower arrangement, which they can take home at the end of the day.

There will be two classes on December 13, one at 10am to 12pm and another at 2 to 4pm. The classes are now fully booked, which isn’t surprising.

We are proud to have McQueens as a partner and we wish them the very best of luck with their masterclass. To all those going along, we hope you have an amazing time. Xx

Earlier this year Dia Mirza, former Miss Asia Pacific, Bollywood actress and producer, announced on Twitter that she was officially engaged to her long time beau Sahil Sangha.

Screen Shot 2014-10-18 at 18.31.21

Sahil proposed to Dia in the middle of  Brooklyn Bridge in New York, getting down on his knees to confess his love to Dia, and she of course said yes, as the New Yorker’s and tourists alike applauded and cheered for the couple. They were in the US for the IIFA 2014 awards in Tampa Bay and it was there where she made the announcement on Twitter. Ever since that day we at Think Shaadi have been waiting in anticipation for the wedding.

Screen Shot 2014-10-19 at 15.18.32

The couple had to wait a while to announce their wedding date, because they were busy working together as c0-producers on Bobby Jasoos. Dia finally let the cat of the bag in mid-July to reporters saying – “If I tell you everything right now, then there would be no surprise. But you would not need to play detective. I will get married in India itself in October.” Mirza told IANS. Then a few weeks later Dia broke the news that October 18 would be the big day!

The three day wedding celebrations started on the 16th of October, with the mehendi function, and Dia shared the news via twitter to her fans. The celebrations were handled by wedding planners Natasha Katgara Gocal and Erina DeAbreu of Divinity Weddings, who also managed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan wedding.

Dia wore a richly adorned marigold yellow anarkali suit, in chanderi fabric, designed by Ritu Kumar. It was teamed with a beautiful fuschia colour odhni. Sahil wore a masculine maroon kurta, to contrast Dia’s eclectic outfit.

Ritu Kumar said in a statement described her creation: “The kurta has a vintage cut used in the courts of Agra around the 15th century. The neck is deep and worked in embroidered gota patti on net like the technique used at the time. The gold metallic taar used is of silver worked in gold thread and dori to give it a stylised plant inlay look. Each panel is highlighted with a flowering buta. The odhni is fuschia worked with small butis of the same beaten gold gota patti, a fuschia brocade deep sinjaf finishes the edges of the outfit.”

October 17th was the Sangeet, with Dia choosing to go with a hypnotic blue and gold Anita Dongre lehenga, which she accessorised with a three string polki and pearl piece, with a large blue pendant. Sahil looked dashing in a signature black buttoned up Raghavendra Rathore bandgala.

Dia also choreographed a dance piece prepared specifically for the sangeet, which Sahil and his family members were eagerly awaiting to watch her perform.

The wedding and reception took place on the 18th at Rosha Farms, a private farmhouse in Ghitorni, South Delhi. It was was very intimate affair for Indian high society standards with guest size ranging from 100-500 during the three day celebrations. Notable guests included Rajkumar Hirani, Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi, Sushmita Sen, Roshan Seth, Nikhil Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Pallavi Sharda and Cyrus Sahukar. There was heavy security protecting the privacy of the couple and their guests.  They were however very sweet to come out and greet the waiting news crews outside the gates, to have some snaps taken.

Dia, went back to Ritu Kumar for the wedding day. She choose a subdued beige and green sharara inspired by Ritu Kumar’s Falaknuma collection, which highlights the heritage of craftsmanship that comes from Dia’s birth city of Hyderabad.

The wedding has been captured by our friends at The Wedding Filmer and they caught this beautiful moment of Dia Mirza moments before Sahil’s baraat arrived at her door. Dia captioned the moment perfectly – “I feel like I’m on a movie set, waiting in my van for my diva hero to arrive.”

Screen Shot 2014-10-20 at 09.04.42

Finally for the reception Dia choose to give with a gold and peach party lengha from Shantanu & Nikhil. They were thrilled to see Dia transform their outfit with such class and grace.

Sahil once told The Bombay Times in an interview, “What I love the most about her is that in one word, she is pure. She is very giving and all heart, which is also a problem as then you need to take care of your heart. She lights up a room as soon as she walks in.” We wish the couple a very long and wonderful married life xx

Rohit Bal’s Spectacular Ode to Heritage

Rohit Bal is a designer one would have to describe as quintessentially Indian, in both design as well as the execution of his shows. Although born in Kashmir, as a designer he is definitely a product of New Delhi, a place which has given birth to a succession of talent, each more intriguing than the last.

With a degree in History from St. Stephens College, it is the past which remains a source of inspiration for Bal, he’s developed a distinctive quality for reaching far back into the depths of history and creating modern beauty from it.

Made famous for his speciality of including Lotus and Peacock motifs into his designs, he is a designer who is steadfast in capturing the richness of Indian fashion, infusing art historical passion with contemporary design aesthetics.

Recently he proved his worth as a designer who can not only create gorgeous designs, but also put together a breathtaking show. At Will Fashion Week, Bal was one of the final designers to showcase his collection.

It’s not unusual to say, but the majority of shows which take place during the end of most fashion weeks are never anything exciting, but Rohit Bal well and truly broke with tradition.

The venue was Quli Khan’s Tomb at the Mehrauli Archaeological site in Delhi. For a designer known for a love of history, it was indeed the perfect setting. To begin, the soundtrack to the show was perfect, with live music performed by Shubha Mudgal.

The tone and theme of this setting was romance, heaps of it, along with ancient mystery, classical style and evocative luxury, with a set designed by Sumant Jayakrishnan. Everything here, down to the last detail, was about framing the collection in the best of Indian heritage and culture.

The show attracted a throng of guests, with the famed French shoe designer Christian Louboutin gracing the front row. It has to be said that Rohit Bal is one of few Indian designers to attract attention from his design contemporaries around the globe.

Bal’s collection is titled “Gulbagh” and the inspiration was Mughal opulence, not the city dwelling Mughal’s we usually think of though, the great warriors and statesman, but the Mughal’s at leisure, in their pleasure palaces, nestled in the valleys of Kashmir.

As per usual Bal’s design techniques mixed the age old with the contemporary, incorporating vegetable dyes and gold leaf for embellishments, and a range of fabrics like chanderi, fine mulmul, matka silk and velvet.

The collection was very distinctive in the fact that Bal incorporated a wealth of flora and fauna into his patterns, from roses and other delicate flowers, to tree leaves. The effect was truly mesmerising, as all the embellishments were brought forth in mesmerising colours such as reds, purples, cream, greens and blues.

With petite female models in prettily adorned lehengas with peplum blouses, embroidered jackets and saris, and princely male models (one of which was the king of machismo Arjun Rampal) doned in handsome achkans and churidars, the collection was a triumph.

Without hesitation, Rohit Bal deserved his rapturous standing ovation.

The Marriage of George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin

George and Amal on Friday | Photo by Associated Press

As one of the worlds most eligable bachelors got hitched on saturday, we at Think Shaadi cast our eyes of what was worn, where it took place and who attented.

Prior to saturday the couple were seen taking in the sights and sounds of Venice, the capital of romantic get-a-ways. It’s here where the glamorous duo finally tied the knot. The city had been a rife with rumour for many months, and let’s be honest, as dashing George is an Italophile, it had to be here.

The couple boarded a taxi boat, fittingly named “Amore” and speed down the canal, in classic movie icon fashion, to their hotel. It was Friday, the day before the big event, and the confirmation that the wedding ceremony would be held at 7-star Aman Canal Grande Hotel had finally laid all the rumours and speculation to rest.

So, Saturday came, the great city of romance and old world charm went into a frenzy as the sun rose over the ancient canals and Reinnaisance architecture. Brides Magazine revealed that officiating the ceremony was former mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni – “Clooney and the ex-politician and journalist met in 2007 when Veltroni presented the actor with a human rights award for his activism on behalf of refugees in Darfur.”

There were 60 guests in attendance and Andrea Bocelli performed for George and Amal. Of the 60 guests, there was Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bono, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford and US Vogue Editor Anna Wintour.

With gorgeous george wearing his favourite Italian designer Armani, Amal’s wedding dress was a stunning piece by Oscar de la Renta, sadly there are no photos of the design…which we think is thoroughly unfair. Her first dress worn as Mrs Clooney however was a sublime creation by Giambattista Valli, a favourite of many lovers of luxury fashion. As The Daily Mail said – “Giambattista Valli was a good choice. He’s an Italian maestro (well, when in Rome… ish) and is known for intricate designs and incredible tailoring.”

It’s been an interesting few years for the couple, and this weekend has confirmed that George has finally found the woman of his dreams. The pair met back in 2012, as The Evening Standard explained – “Alamuddin and Clooney began their relationship last October. They found time in their hectic schedules to go out for dinner at Berners Tavern in Fitzrovia, with Alamuddin donning some sparkly silver wedge boots for the occasion. In March, they tried the true test of being a couple — a holiday, going to Tanzania and later on the Seychelles. When his film Monuments Men was screened at the White House with Obama in attendance, Alamuddin was on Clooney’s arm.”

Alam is a well renowned human rights lawyer, having worked on numerous high-profile cases, including the campaign to release then imprisoned Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. As well the case of defending Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. According to her friends and those who have come into contact with her, she is strong willed yet very loving woman.

It seems that George finally met someone with the same drive and passion for life as he has.
