Alien to the concept of Stay-at-home Honeymoon? We’re not surprised, at all. The definition of honeymoon, as we know is a romantic holiday to an exotic, isolated destination with the beau. But contrary to our beliefs, the honeymoon is not just a trip but a concept. Rewind to the 16th century, the honeymoon was considered to be the period following marriage-characterized by love and happiness. Since marriages were mostly arranged during that time, the period after marriage was considered to be full of bonding and intimacy.

Fast-forward to the present, not much has changed except having a compulsory vacation, usually for 20-25 days, to the most trending honeymoon destinations across the globe. Along with being the perfect excuse to ditch the regular routine-life, the honeymoon allows a smooth, romantic transition from being bachelors to married.

How & why did travel strongly become a part of the Honeymoon?

Since a lot of Indian couples still harbour with their parents or families, spending quality time as a newlywed comes across as a challenge and the only option that prevails is to travel which gives the couple some alone time to know and explore each other more. Also, travelling with your bae is supposedly acknowledged by the millennial world as, “Couple who travel together, stay together”, and there’s no denying that.

Talking in the current case scenario with the epidemic of Coronavirus (COVID-19) making its grounds on one country after the other, travelling for the honeymoon, vacations or even business trips need to take a back seat. While we understand how long-awaited and crucial a honeymoon is, migration of people from one country to another is the biggest reason for this epidemic. So before you spend all of your savings on planning your honeymoon, check out the ultimate alternative to a honeymoon keeping the current state of emergency in mind.

How to experience the bliss of a honeymoon without having to travel?

Lumiere Wedding Company

First, let’s discover why travelling has become so important today for millennial couples. Travelling is all about coming out of your comfort zones and hopping on to a journey wherein the experience is a mystery until discovered. In a nutshell, travelling together helps couples understand and adjust to each other’s limitations, adding to better communication, more forgiveness and the freedom to explore without any constraints. If given supreme attention and effort, the honeymoon period maps out a lot of things for the couple to begin staying under one roof.

Oh, trust us, there are many options if you wish to have a Stay-at-Home Honeymoon. We dug a little deeper to know all the best ways to have a travel-free honeymoon and you’ll be surprised at the list.

So, hop on and explore some of the undiscovered ways to discover your love:

Go on a Long Drive

If travelling together is something you cannot fully give up, try taking a small trip to a nearby city to simply get away from your routine. A one-day up-down to a hill station or a historic place is sure to revive the two of you to bits. Get some camping essentials along and make sure to spend some aloof time in the serenity of nature.

Netflix & Chill

If the two of you are big on movie marathons or binge-watching series, nothing like spending the day with a bucket of popcorn and lounging on the couch in your pyjamas watching your favourite movies or series. Get all warm and fuzzy and let the feeling of togetherness sink in.

Take a Digital Detox

When you’re travelling, you do not get the time to keep checking your social media feeds or work emails, so keep it just like that. Take a compulsory digital detox and be fully present in the moment and live every bit of it.

Have Hearty Conversations

After a maddening end to your wedding revelries, log off the hustle and indulge in hearty conversations. Express your true feeling about how you felt before, during and after the wedding and deeply cherish the beauty of the nuptials. Go back in time and talk about each other’s childhood memories, dream destinations and life goals. You’ll discover a lot of new things even if you’ve known that person for years.

Redecorate Your Room

One of the most fun activities together can be DIY-ing your living space by making it full of the two of you. Come on common grounds and understand each other’s sense of surrounding and then mix them both into something you can then call yours, proudly.

Take a Spa-Date

Spa dates are immensely rejuvenating and full of emotional bonding. Take some time off and spend the day at a luxurious spa in your city. You can always create a spa set-up at home with aromatic candles and rose petals with light romantic music playing in the background.

Fine Dine & Wine

A hopeless romantic knows the power of a candle-lit dinner and it should never be underestimated. Good food and wine at your favourite restaurant is the ultimate idea to relax and connect. Cooking together while tossing some wine is also a fantastic idea to connect and bond.

Snooze it Off

After sleepless nights and months of wedding planning, all one needs is a good snooze and it’s even better when you’re curled up like a bear in someone’s arms. This is the only time you’ll have the freedom to ditch the alarm and catch up on that beauty sleep to welcome your new life in full spirit.

All in all, honeymooning is not just about travelling around the globe with that special someone, it is more about travelling far enough to discover each other to bits and understanding them inside-out. So, don’t feel disheartened if you cannot take this much-dreamt of vacation right now, live in the moment and make the best use of what there is. Don’t let the inability to travel be your only limit to discover love, find your unique ways and weave priceless moments. You’ll discover, your home is the best place to have made these memories that will and live amidst you, all through your lives.

Greatest Honeymoon Locations in Europe That Appear like Cities from Storybooks

Have you ever wanted to walk into picturesque worlds inside paintings? To experience the natural splendour that you have often seen in dreamy paintings and landscape photographs, choose from the storybook cities in Europe. We dug into the details of Europe destinations and shortlisted some of the most enchanting towns far away from home. Plan your honeymoon in cities that look like a dream. Find a quiet, quaint town of love, and bask in the beauty of nature.

Bled, Slovenia

A picture of Bled is all that it takes to believe that storybook towns exist. Nestled in the foothills of the Julian Alps, Bled is a resort town in Slovenia. Picturise a honeymoon destination engulfed in nature’s beauty, snowy clouds hovering on the top of your head, a quintessential castle roosted on a rock overlooking an endless crystal clear lake. This wondrous resort town is situated right in the middle of an Alpine lake. Renowned as a tourist destination, this picture-postcard tiny island witnesses an outstretched glacial lake that surrounds the island town of your dreams. The journey to reach the island destination is as fulfilling as the experience of staying there. Sail on a flat bottomed wooden boat, known as ‘Pletna’ in Slovenia’s native language. Upon reaching the island, ninety nine steps bespeckled with the shining sun anticipate your arrival.

Activities: While splendid views of a fairytale destination is what helps Bled garner every couple’s attention, the island can be so much more than a few romance dipped days and nights. You can explore a wide array of sport activities and plan an offbeat adventure honeymoon with activities like horse riding, golf, fishing, canoeing, trekking and more. Ride on a Pletna to reach the monumental South Staircase (Južno Stopnišče). Dive into Lake Bled for a panoramic underwater view. Enjoy adventures around Triglav National Park and Julian Alps or try rafting and tubing in the rivers of Gorenjska region.

Must Explore: The Bled Castle museum houses an exquisite collection tracing the history of the town from the time of its origin. Lovebirds should definitely visit the The Church of the Assumption and ring the wishing bell. Head to the exhibition space on the Provost’s House or say your prayers at the Parish Church of St Martin.

Bibury, England

Bibury is a storybook village, located in Gloucestershire, England. It stands on both banks of the River Coln and gains its reputation for traditional houses and ornate buildings. Bibury is every couple’s dream destination with cobbled narrow streets running along honey colored cottages. The city is a study of contrast with weavers’ cottages and an expanse of water meadows.

Activities: The trout farm is a must visit if you are a fan of fishing expeditions. Go fishing and catch your own trout, or savor the delectable taste of smoked trout recipes. Choose from delectable English gourmet cuisine in Bibury’s traditional English restaurants.

Must Explore: Take a tour of the picturesque Arlington Row cottages decorated with blooming flowers. These cottages were originally built in the year 1380 as monastic wool stores and were later converted into weavers’ cottages. We also recommend that you explore the marine life of Bibury. Plan a tour of the Bibury Trout Farm that is situated in the heart of Cotswold Village. Soak in the splendid sight of the water coming alive with a flock of ducks, swans, kingfishers, herons and otters or spend time on the meadows alongside River Coln. Head to the Saxon Church or the Church of St. Mary to spend precious silent moments of devotion with your partner.

Annecy, France

Have you ever fantasised about riding on a boat and gazing at the pastel hued houses decked with blooming geranium all around you? Named after the lake in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region – Annecy is a destination from your reverie brought to life. The French city is also referred to as the Venice of the Alps. The aura is that of a world away from the world we live in. Castles, cathedrals and architectural masterpieces, lie on both sides of the river Thiou. Choose one of the best honeymoon destinations in Europe and sail with your partner through Annecy, drenched in shades of love. A backdrop of serene mountains of lands covered in enchanting woods is undoubtedly the most romantic setup for your honeymoon diaries.

Activities: You must try the ride on the water taxi that takes you to three picturesque villages – Talloires, Menthon St. Bernard and Veyrier. The Lake Annecy is the place to be for couples lusting for adventures in water. Head to the lake if you would love to indulge in wakeboarding, water skiing, sailing, and diving experiences with their partners. You can also opt for paragliding and landing on water.

Must Explore: Check out the Touring Lac d’Annecy or Lake Annecy, renowned as ‘Europe’s cleanest lake’. If you have the innate desire to explore all things heritage, art and culture, visit the Palais de l’Île that houses the Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Centre. You can also take a walk through the narrow canyon of Gorges du Fier and soak in the splendid view of the running water below the footbridge.

Have you always dreamt of spending your honeymoon in a storybook town? check out these fairytale destinations in Europe and plan your dream honeymoon.

When it’s biting cold and even 7 layers of clothing fail to keep you cosy, you know you’re doing it wrong. Packing for a winter honeymoon is easier said than done. You are bound to overpack your luggage with plenty of pullovers and jackets while the trick remains to keep a few staples handy. Over-sized fur-lined jackets, fuzzy thigh-high boots, knit caps, gloves and high-neck pullovers are your best bet.

Must Haves for Snow-capped Honeymoons: Puffed jackets, fur-lined overcoats, velvet or leather leggings, thigh-high boots, thermals and warm beanies.

We personally love country-side honeymoons since they’re super rustic and romantic. Breezy outfits with little definition would go a long way. Move over cowboy hats or boots and slip into shift dresses and chino shorts with casual sneakers or espadrilles.

Must Haves for Tropical Honeymoons: Shift dresses, sneakers, chino shorts or pants, light accessories, crop-top with flared high-waisted skirts and linen shirts.

If you’re planning to take yourself on a city spree for your honeymoon, get your fancy wardrobe out. If some days would be about splurging on the local streets of the city, some days are bound to posh star-lit restaurants, elite brunches. Long over-coats, classy gown dresses and suave accessories are exactly what you’ll need to get your honeymoon style on point.

Must Haves for Cityscape Honeymoons: Long coats, mufflers, simple gown dresses, semi-formal shirts, tapered skirts and some edgy accessories.

Adventurous Honeymoon

If your honeymoon itinerary involves hiking, trekking, adventure sports or even road-tripping, ditch the boring sweatshirt and tracksuits. Think blazers over hoodies and comfy chinos over sweatpants to make the most of your fairy-lit camps in the midst of a forest with a flaming bonfire.

Must Haves for Adventurous Honeymoons: Comfy tracks, sweatshirts, over-sized blazers, backpacks, joggers, running shoes and caps.

We know ‘what to wear’ is a constant and universal dilemma for everyone out there when it comes to dressing up for special occasions, and honeymoons are no different. They demand you to look as happening as ever and dress for it. So whatever your honeymoon destination may be, we got you covered.
