Bollywood Extravaganza: The Marriage of Riddhi Malhotra and Tejas Talwalkar

Top: The Bride and Groom Bottom: The Bride and Groom with uncle Manish and brother Punit.

It was a fantastically fashionable wedding for the niece of famed designer (and Bollywood favourite) Manish Malhotra. Riddhi Malhotra tied-the-knot with her fiance Tejas Talwalker, in Mumbai. Attracting a wealth of Bollywood’s great and good, like moths to a flame.

mh5mh4 mh3 Top: Priyanka Chopra Middle: Madhuri Dixit with her husband Sriram Nene Bottom: Sridevi and Boney Kapoor

Obviously the guests were, on the most part, decked out in the finest designs Riddhi’s talented uncle had to offer. It was much like one of Malhotra’s fashion shows.

mh8mh7 mh6Top: Rekha Middle: Karisma Kapoor Bottom: Vidya Balan with her husband Sidharth Roy Kapur

The star studded wedding began with the sangeet, where we saw a veritable who’s-who of the industry show up in support of Manish. The guest list included – Karisma and Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra, Karan Johar with mum Hiroo, Malaika and Amrita Arora, Kajol, Gauri Khan, Farah Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and more.

mh11mh10 mh9Top: Neha Dhupia Middle: Akshay Kumar with wife Twinkle Bottom: Raveena Tandon

The Bollywood divas were the ultimate stars of the show, not however outshining the loved-up bride and groom. The beauty of it, was that everyone invited really did their best in the fashion stakes. It was of course a series of events, the sangeet, wedding ceremony, reception, that was dominated by the mighty Malhotra, but we saw some other designers on show including Manish Arora and Sanjay Garg.

We at Think Shaadi are hoping to see a lot more fashion filled wedding events in 2015! Xx

Citizen Khan Presents the TV Wedding of the Year

The hit BBC One sitcom Citizen Khan, brainchild of Adil Ray, featured the very first British-Pakistani-Muslim wedding on primetime TV last Friday. The series has seen a rise in popularity since it began, with its hilarious self-deprecatory humour, with regards to British-Pakistani life.

It was an exceptional episode, which showed a funny take on how Muslim weddings are conducted in the UK. It was the esteemed community leader’s daughter Shazia who finally married Amjad in the episode. Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, the shows creator and star Adil Ray said – “I wanted to have parts of a Western ceremony with nods to a Muslim wedding, to make it unique. There isn’t really a typical Muslim wedding in Britain anymore because everyone has their own ideas. I know of Muslim brides who have got married in white and cut a cake.”

The wedding was a fantastically outrageous mix of Pakistani traditions, with traditional Muslim elaborate headgear for the groom and Westernised bright yellow bridesmaids dresses. Adil went on further to say – “It’s Shazia’s big day and she wants to get her own back on her snarky younger sister Alia by making her wearing a hideously bright yellow dress, along with fellow bridesmaid Debbie (Laura Aikman). An Imam conducts our ceremony and the groom wears an elaborate gold headdress. That has a big part to play in the story.”

Well, we at Think Shaadi thought it was a brilliant episode, and we can’t wait for the Christmas Special. Xx

The 400 lb Wedding Dress

Now we’ve seen some truly impressive wedding gowns at Think Shaadi, but this one blows all others out of the water. With nearly one million embellishments and taking three years to make, the dress has caught the attention of the global media.

The Inquisitr said – “The wedding gown took 20,000 hours to complete and consists of almost a million beads. The gown is a size 4, Be says, and is made of 500,000 glass pearls and over 400,000 crystal beads – some of those vintage Swarovski from her personal collection. It has a 20 foot, 6 inch train and took seven miles of beading wire to construct.”

“Gail Be (the designer) financed the gown herself and does not have an estimate of the cost, but with so many beads and so much labor, it is sure to be far more expensive than most people could afford — not to mention being too heavy to wear. Be says the gown weighs nearly 400 pounds.”

A truly impressive achievement of design expertise. The Daily Mail added “Though the designer values those two pieces at $47,500, she was happy to lend them to the pop superstar free of charge in return for the priceless exposure, adding: ‘Of all the fashion houses in the world, she could’ve chosen Armani, Prada, anybody. Why would she pick some woman in the middle of Minnesota that nobody’s ever heard of?’ Ms Be insists she never tried to sell her designs in the past, though she’s finally hoping to get compensated for her work after a recent separation from her husband limited her household income.”

We’re sure our readers would love to try this dress on. Xx

The Chocolatier: Moments of Pleasure

With careful craftsmanship and exceptional exploration of flavours, Aneesh Popat aka The Chocolatier works a certain kind of magic creating a delectable array of chocolates. Stocked by some of Britain’s finest luxury purveyors, such as Harrods, Selfridges and Southerden Pastry Store, Aneesh has gained a wealth of customers.

Influenced by many leading chefs and experimentalists, including famed French chemist Dr. Hervé This, previously to his launch into the world of chocolate creation, Aneesh spent many years training in science and mathematics; it’s true to say that this voracious intellectual mind has been a great resource in conjuring together the array of flavours and designs.

In recent interview with YCT, Aneesh said how his mathematical mind runs in conjunction with his craft – “I look at a variety of ingredients at any one time, analysing their compatibility based on the flavour components within them. Some of the combinations are most “interesting” and it’s always nice to surprise the palate especially when the brain is expecting it to taste incompatible, when in actual fact – it works! I am a pure Mathematician – so I have been trained to think outside the box, to think in dimensions we do not experience. I feel this has helped to conceptualise in a much more efficient and effective way.”

The Chocolatier’s delightfully mouth watering collections range from water ganache, mini cusines, and bars, hot chocolate and individual creations. Aneesh has also created chocolates for luxury fragrance companies, matching with their scents, yet another unique and enviable aspect to The Chocolatier.

His mathematical background aside, Aneesh also galvanises his British upbringing with his Indian heritage, fusing together a flurry of flavours from rose and cinnamon to his most notable of concoctions chilli and lime.

Aneesh was voted amongst the 1000 most influential Londoners in 2013, and is gaining new clients by the day. We at Think Shaadi are honoured to have The Chocolatier as a member of the Think Shaadi family.

The Wedding Filmer: The Color of Life

Every so often we like to share a heartwarming story on the Think Shaadi blog, especially if one of our wonderful partners are involved. You will know of the marvelous Wedding Filmer, the team of creatives who have single-handedly made the wedding video a popular addition to the shaadi.

So, here is the story, a man by the name of Mr Kaytee met the Wedding Filmer team in Mumbai last year, to tell them about the most special day in his life (The day his only son Sumir would get married) the team could see instantly from the pride he felt for Kiran that this was as much a daughter’s wedding for him. It helped make their mind up that the location was the stunning cliffs of Santa Barbara, the décor jaw-dropping and the details involved a chandelier cake.

Watching the film, you can see how special it was for all concerned. In the teams on words – “The Color of Life” changed us in such an intrinsic way that we decided to help a powerful, 15-year old artist Devangi Chopra produce and craft a cover of one of the most haunting love songs you’ll ever hear!”

So, immerse yourself in some visual splendour that truly touched all those involved. Xx

The guest list, according to is truly start studded, along with Salman, Salim, Helen and the rest of the Khan clan, political figures such as Sonia Ghandi, Narendra Modi and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be coming along too.

The wedding itself will be closed off from the press and prying eyes, even now, very little of the details are being shared. Arpita being from one of India’s most beloved families and therefore the most observed, it’s only right that the couples privacy be given the strictest attention.

The regal venue has been hired by big brother Salman for two days, and has been decorated from top to bottom.
