Tarun Tahiliani’s bridal collection, shown at India Couture Week, is a rich and evocative drama, adorned with a lustre of tradition and ancient crafts. It has been said that Tahiliani really knows how to put together a collection, it’s something that fashion devotees anticipate with immense glee, and as always he doesn’t disappoint.
His collections always emanate with a warm and sensuous glow. Forever original, this time around Tahiliani sought out inspiration from the ancient regional crafts of India, rendering it with his trademark razzle dazzle. For the couture range he created a wildly dramatic array of gowns, tempered by a delicate palette of colours, extraordinarily feminine in execution, he managed to balance so harmoniously the elements of frenzy with the demure.
Tahiliani’s previous collection was all regal splendour, cherry picking his inspirations from the beauty of Mughal India, this time it was about the crafts that India has been famous for for centuries. The wondrous textile industry that began in the small villages and towns.
The echoes of a thousand artisans are woven into this collection, from the material to the intricate embroidery, it pays a glorious homage to the stylistics and craftsmanship of the past. Each design incorporates something individual, something of heritage, from their Tahiliani injects a flurry of modernity and crowns it with his luxurious touch.
In Tahiliani’s own words – “Glimpses of shimmering gold, hues of soft pastels and a whimsical frothiness are reminiscent of an era of charm and elegance. Creating couture which keeps distinctive Indian crafts alive, while exploring visions in sparkling crystal and carat, reflects emotions that give shape to sensuous, elegant and bespoke luxury for brides, grooms and their families as well as for other occasions. This collection will be living, breathing heritage, melded with the fresh vibrancy and essence of modern India.” As always, Tarun Tahiliani reminds us that the flower of creativity can only truly flourish when designers pay their respects to what has gone before.
Most recently, at Lakme Fashion Week, Tarun showcased his Summer Resort collection, which is a kaleidoscope of colours, a sheer explosion of fun and frivolity prevailed. The theme embodies a party, a mardi gras of festive patterns and cleverly matched colours.
Bohemian chic is the prevailing feel, with floaty cottons and an eclectic array of silks. The collection is a bountiful display of relaxation and freedom.
We at Think Shaadi are delighted to announce that Tarun Tahiliani will be in London on May 15th for Think Shaadi Boutique.
